The Telephone Pioneers of
America has established awards for People Who Care and Education
Excellence projects, which are judged on a National level and
announced at the Annual Meeting each Fall. The NC Pioneers are
proud to be a finalist for an Educational Excellence Project, the
highest form of recognition chapters receive for activities that
advance education.

Area BellSouth employees within Corporate and External Affairs,
Network, and Operator Services gathered surplused computers as
company systems were updated. Presentations included Pioneers,
Partners, and BellSouth employees to the schools and community
locations. ExplorNet, a non-profit organization in Raleigh,
helped distribute computers to the Highland School of Technology. |

The Pioneers donated
$200 to the Hornets Nest Girl Scouts Council for material needed to
make 20 lap blankets, a blanket that is used to cover your legs and
can be folded into a pocket pouch sewn onto the blanket. The
Troop refers to these blankets as "Quillows" and
they will present them to nursing home patients during projects
planned around Valentines Day 2002. Front:
